C.J. Meenan grew up in a working-class suburb outside New York City with civil-service parents who valued stability, discipline, and doing right by people — values that still power his mission today.
Since income opportunities for children were limited, C.J. delivered newspapers, shoveled snow, and cut lawns. He didn’t wait for permission to build income. He took action.
Even in school himself, he noticed a gap: classrooms were focused on theory while real life demanded resourcefulness, initiative, and resilience.
A first teaching job in one of New York City’s toughest neighborhoods made this disconnect impossible to ignore. Students were not short on ambition — they were navigating hunger, housing insecurity, and adult burdens far too young.
The system wasn’t failing for lack of effort. It was failing for lack of practical knowledge — as well as clear pathways to ownership and income generation.
That realization lit the fuse. 💣💥

A mentor saw what C.J. could do to bridge the educational gap. Steve Mariotti, a pioneer in entrepreneurship education, invited him to deliver life-changing skills to underserved youth. C.J. said yes — immediately.
Together, they founded and scaled NFTE into a nationally recognized, $25M annual movement. For 17 years, C.J. created curriculum, trained educators, and watched young people turn their natural hustle into confidence, capability, and economic mobility. During this time, he helped launch over 3000 businesses across America.
He wasn’t just teaching startup skills – he was helping restore dignity, agency, and direction.
After NFTE, C.J. led nonprofit turnarounds, advised founders, and earned an MBA in entrepreneurship from Babson College. All the while, one truth kept ringing:
Entrepreneurship education was expanding, while access wasn’t.

As technology reshaped how we learn, work, and build, C.J. saw a new frontier — and a widening gap. Entrepreneurship was becoming more accessible in theory, yet more confusing and out of reach in practice. Information surged. Tools multiplied. To scale his mission and meet the future head-on, C.J. brought on Tech Strategist Jill Callahan — a systems-builder and program/curriculum developer who shared his belief in access, empowerment, and ownership. Together, they built XP Startup Labs — a learning environment that values action over theory, access over exclusivity, and real-world results over empty academic promises.
